Julie and Kyle’s Journey
Julie, Kyle and I met in 2020, when she was pregnant with her son Archie. They registered for a couple of classes with me, and were part of the first virtual class I did at the beginning of the pandemic. We’ve stayed in touch here and there, and she reached back out this past fall to reconnect while pregnant with baby #2 to chat through her first birth experience and to explore some options for support in this pregnancy.
Birth Stories are So Sacred
I am always so honored to hear these sacred stories of how our babes enter the world, and the ride it takes us on, physically, emotionally and spiritually. I could hear and feel that Julie’s first birth experience was overshadowed by the fear and weight of the pandemic, and in her words, also something she just wanted to “get through or get over with.” And this time, she wanted something different. Something more positive and empowering.
I was really excited at the opportunity to work with her and her hubby Kyle, because I knew that she was ready to heal through her first experience, to learn from it, and to create something new and different for her this time around.
I was running a Black Friday special for the Empowered Birth Series bundled with a couple Empowered Birth Coaching sessions and when she said let’s do it, I totally did a happy dance for what was possible for her!
Learning From Each Other in the Empowered Birth Series
From my view, there was no mistake in terms of who Julie and Kyle were registered with in the Empowered Birth Series. The learning and understanding that each couple shared with each other just based on their own unique journeys and stories was so impactful. I think there was a “cathartic” aspect for Julie and Kyle of being able to share their story with another couple who was expecting their first babe, and to know that what they shared could help this first time couple. I also think that Julie and Kyle were inspired by the other couple’s preparation and goals for their first birth, and were inspired to bring forth some of those same intentions and goals as well.
Healing through Empowered Birth Coaching
During our Empowered Birth Coaching sessions, sooo much magic showed up. We got to process through some of what had happened during their first experience, make sense of it all, bring some compassion and empathy to it, and create some powerful opportunities for Julie and Kyle to chat more about it. Space was created for something else to be possible. Julie said that it was like “birth therapy” for her. (UM HELL YES)
Over time, I could hear and see Julie really stepping into her belief in herself, and I think my most favorite part was at our last session. During a guided connection exercise with Kyle, Julie was bubbling over with emotion, feeling in her words “joy and ability” for all that lies ahead.
Cue the tears now. Seriously y’all, this kind of magic is what makes my heart sing. That this beautiful Mama now has a completely different context and relationship to her birth experience, and can rest more easily in the truth that she is phenomenally capable for all that lies ahead, along with knowing that her partner feels confident in supporting her.
Julie and Kyle, thank you oodles, for allowing me to be part of your journey. My heart is full knowing that you are ready to embark on this magical journey to meeting your babe with confidence, joyful hearts, more tools in your tool belt, and all the love in the world between the two of you.
